Consequences of DUI/DWI Conviction
Many problems can occur after a conviction for operating under the influence (OWI), driving under the influence (DUI) or driving while intoxicated (DWI):
- Remains on a driving record abstract for life
- If the conviction is in circuit court, the data is forever available on the Internet at Wisconsin Circuit Court Access
- Can have an adverse effect on a credit report
- Substantially higher auto insurance premiums for at least 3 years
- Inability to travel to certain countries including Canada for a certain length of time
- Considered adversely in applying for liquor license or bartender license
- Denial of unemployment compensation for employee who loses driving job because of CDL disqualification arising from OWI conviction
New OWI Law Takes Effect on July 1, 2010
