Are there laws about court system fairness?

Question:  In 2012, I was cited for DUI. One of the officers involved has had multiple DUI incidents of his own, but has been let "off the hook" even though his last one in 2013 resulted in his car parked on top of a guard rail. He is now the chief of police, and has no record following him. Are there laws about fairness across the board?

Answer:  It would be great for your case if the jury knew that the arresting officer had been in your position but was, in the opinion of the authorities, found to be not guilty of operating while impaired. The problem will be convincing your judge that this evidence is relevant. The concept of getting into evidence "Other Acts" is a difficult sell. Get a great lawyer. Get out an open records request.
